Watch undercover video footage that shows the standard abuse of chickens—from birth until death—who are raised and killed in meat production.

Pilgrim’s Pride Slaughterhouse
An undercover investigation at a KFC “Supplier of the Year” slaughterhouse in Moorefield, West Virginia, documented that workers were stomping on live chickens, kicking them, violently slamming them against floors and walls, spray-painting their faces, and spitting tobacco in their eyes. Tyson Slaughterhouse
A PETA undercover investigator working on the slaughter line of a Tyson Foods chicken processing plant documented that live birds were frequently mutilated by throat-cutting machines and had their heads ripped off, and dying birds were thrown around by plant employees just for fun. KFC Investigations
Worldwide, every time undercover investigators enter the facilities of KFC’s suppliers, they find hideous abuse and suffering. Despite this, KFC has ignored the recommendations of its animal welfare advisors, choosing instead to allow the more than 850 million chickens raised for its buckets and boxes each year to suffer hideous abuse. Chickens raised and killed for KFC often have their wings and legs broken and their throats slit while they are still conscious, and many are scalded to death in defeathering tanks. Brian’s Poultry: Canadian Slaughterhouse
Two workers at this facility blew the whistle after seeing that chickens were being crushed to death by heavy objects, bashed in the head, stepped on, and kicked. Chickens had their legs and wings broken and their joints dislocated—with many left to suffer slow and agonizing deaths. Read more.

Foster Farms
An investigation by East Bay Animal Advocates revealed routine, systematic cruelty and abuse at a Foster Farms facility in Merced County, California, the state’s leading broiler-producing county. Read more and watch the video.

Mercy for Animals Investigations

• ‘Animal Care Certified’ Exposed: Ohio’s Largest Egg Farms
Between August 2001 and November 2004, Mercy for Animals investigators went behind the closed doors of Ohio’s largest egg farms: Ohio Fresh Eggs (formerly Buckeye Egg Farm) and Daylay Egg Farm. They emerged with shocking video footage and photographs that revealed the typical conditions inside an “animal care certified” facility. Read more and watch the videos.

• Weaver Brothers Egg Farm
This Mercy for Animals undercover investigation again found routine cruelty and abuse and led to the rescue of one of the industry’s smallest victims. Read more and watch the video.

Compassion Over Killing Investigations
Compassion Over Killing has been relentless in its efforts to reveal the cruelty in the egg industry. Focused on Maryland facilities owned by major companies—such as ISE America, County Fair Farms, and Red Bird Egg Farm—Compassion Over Killing’s investigations have exposed the egg industry’s true colors. Compassionate Consumers: Wegman’s
A 2004 investigation at New York’s largest egg farm, a supplier of Wegman’s grocery stores, found that birds were dying in manure pits, hens were trapped in cages and unable to reach food or water, and dead birds’ corpses were rotting in cages packed with live animals.
